The topic itself is energetic as its literal sense. There are so many changes while we compare and contrast with the earlier youth/ education and the prevailing one. Firstly, today's youth are socialized everywhere, from market to family and from university to media, that are webbed with social relationships and those agents of socialization are influencing our day to day lives. I.e. both personal and professional one.
In modern era, Nepalese youths are more influenced by western culture, modernization, urbanization and sanskritiaztion. Although there few positive effects of western culture, lots of sub culture (youth culture) like fixing the hair up, using new specially designed fashionable costumes, exaggerated speech and body language are being common nowadays. These changing cultures are not only to be pointed out but also some trend like flying abroad either to achieve an international degree or to earn money being hopeless to earn a living in Nepal are the
present condition that shows youth's hopelessness. Unlike the demerits, some benefits like growing independent being juvenile, equality on the basis of sex, scientific way of behaving and judging, have in many ways changed the social phenomena. Down the ages, people used to follow only traditional or lecture teaching methods. Although generation gap is found both in present and earlier years, there are many contradictions. Formerly, a teacher used
to teach the students in his own way. He was unaware of taking feedback. Teaching was monotonous. Education was like money you saved in bank and whenever you wanted to withdraw that, you would, just like when you ask questions and want answers the same you had given. But now trends have been changed completely. A teacher practices democratic teaching norms and behaves with his students as a guide, a friend and as a co- traveler. Things are difficult for a teacher of present since a child of today is accultured or assimilated and even
socialized in various ways. Of course, in this present context there are many challenges for a teacher to teach his/ her students.
These days in Nepal, every sector is blended with politics from state to university. The youths of Nepal seems to be playing politics not for social reform and revolution. They are being involved unknowingly and are guided by their political parties which seem to be vile for state reconstruction, taking Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) to its logical end and formation of the New Constitution. Doing politics is not in its sense a dirty game but
instead of doing politics for the educational reform from traditional to international level; students themselves are ruining the standard of their university or becoming hindrance for a better change. I was startled to know about the quota of seats provided by Ministry of Education (MOE) in MBBS entrance to Janajatis. i.e (27 seats for janajatis where total number is 131) Even in education, the uneducated leaders are adding politics.
Whatever differences may be, youths are the cornerstone of society and nation. Their skills, caliber and potentiality should be properly understood and acknowledged by the nation instead of letting brain drain. On the other hand, youths also should take the national challenges as their own so as to progress their own nation which ultimately will benefit them, their career and also their survival as in modern days people study not only to gain knowledge and understand world but also for their own survival and easier existence.
