Need of Holistic Education

As a teacher, I always think what teaching menthods should I adopt while teaching my students. Probably I got the best teaching strategy if implemented properly with tacit elan and determination. I mean holistic education.
Ron Miller, founder of the journal Holistic Education Review defines Holistic education in another term also progressive education is a philosophy of education that is based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning and purpose in life through connections to the community, to the natural world and also to humanitarian values like peace and compassion. Holistic Education is not any one technique or curriculum. It is the practice of educating the whole person. Here, the term ''whole'' means mind, heart, body and spirit. The term holistic education is used to refer more democratic and humanistic types of alternative education.

Holistic perspective in education develops the every person's intellectual, social, emotional, creative, artistic and spiritual possibilities. Holistic approach seeks to engage students in teaching\learning process and encourages personal as well as collective responsibility. It also means humanistic approach since it aims at helping students be the most they can be. There are religious as well as psychological approaches within the holistic approach. Religious in the sense that it emphasizes the connectedness of all living things and stresses the hamony. Psychological in the sense that according to holistic approach there are no deficits in learners, just differences.
It is now well known fact that holistic education seeks to educate the whole person. First, children need to learn about themselves which involves learning self-esteem and self-respect. Second, they need to learn about the relationships that may be either social or emotional. Third, the power of resilience, that helps them to overcome difficulties and challenges. Ultimately they need to learn about aesthetics, that encourages the student to see the beauty around their surroundings and also to have an awe in life.
All the four wisdoms are the possible keys to success which is possible only through the holistic perspective. Ultimately, I wonder what would happen if all the teachers in Nepal adopt this holy strategy.
