Modern +2 Education System

There are numerous higher secondary schools in Nepal which are popularly known as +2. They are all affiliated to Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB). The PCL phase out program also coerced many students to join higher secondary schools. However, there are many significances and drawbacks of +2 education system. There are about 1,976 institutions that are affiliated with HSEB.

Higher secondary schools or plus twos are also private and public i.e. governmental one. There are many students and teachers who agree that private plus twos have good mechanism, all classes run efficiently. They also say that internal examinations are also held in proper time. In comparison to private +2 institutions, government +2 institutions have not been able to provide quality education for want of clear policy. Teachers’ issues in government +2 institutions are to be solved soon because teachers strike time and again for them to be permanent.

As far as the significances of studying +2 education are concerned there are many.
Some of them include changing of curriculum according to need and time also to make relevant, holding exams on time, publishing results on time, running classes and taking examinations regularly. Many academicians agree that +2 education is of international level and its syllabus is global. Apart from +2 institutions, government colleges running Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) there are fewer choices in subjects. Classes, and examinations are not held in time and result also get delayed to be flashed. Party politics has caused serious harm to the education of students in government colleges.

Besides significances, there are also some drawbacks of +2 education. Teachers make write their students the answers and notes of each and every lesson due to which students’ creativity gets ruined and they become less responsible instead become dependent on teachers. Poor students are deprived of education since the fee of this system is out of reach of these students. Privatization in +2 has also impact because they are run for profit than for providing services since there is also a hidden culture of buying and selling colleges as business that is not a good practice.

HSEB should be always responsible while giving affiliation, conducting exams, developing and monitoring curriculum. Monitoring of each institution frequently is necessary but it has not been very effective in this responsibility. Fulfilling all these responsibilities properly will help to develop this system and become generalities’ friendly.
